International Women’s Day 2011

International Women’s Day 2011 is a day when women’s rights are highlighted.

This is an event that occurs once each year. The idea behind International Women’s Day is to focus the world’s attention on the health, economic and educational needs of women living in countries around the world.

In these modern times there are still many challenges and hurdles that stop women from achieving their goals and dreams.

It is the hope that International Women’s Day 2011 will direct the eyes of the world toward the empowerment of women in  all countries and cultures.

Ever since March 8, 1911 this special day has been singled out to show support for the role and welfare of females, and on March 9, 2011 International Women’s Day will also be marking the event’s 100th anniversary. This is the one day of the year when world leaders, community organizations and activist groups are challenged to find ways to improve the status of women.

Although many countries have managed to make advancements there are still millions of women who are locked into a grinding cycle of illiteracy, poverty and abuse. The happiness, prosperity and health of women are major factors in the overall success of any country’s development.

Females are the heart of the family; they give birth, rear families; take care of household responsibilities; plant crops; hold jobs and contribute to the family’s income.

In a number of countries women are still viewed as property, and they have few rights. Instead of having access to medical care, education and employment opportunities they are forced into slavery and servitude. Although some communities hold tightly to their old traditions regarding women’s rights it is important to institute changes that will benefit the women.

International Women’s Day 2011 wants to open everyone’s eyes and have them realize that these positive changes will result in happier families and more prosperity for families and communities. The welfare of females is a commitment that USAID takes very seriously.

The organization implements and supports programs that are designed to improve the lives of women around the world. These programs tackle issues such as legal rights, health care, job opportunities and education for all females.

USAID also supports the inclusion of women in politics and government. The 2010 theme for International Women’s Day was Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities and Progress for All”. Each theme that is chosen targets the basic rights that should be available to all women no matter where they live. With the backing of USAID new health programs are being set up to provide instruction and assistance to women and families.

Females are empowered with the knowledge of how they can help change their lives for the better.

Family planning, child care and disease prevention are just a few of the health care services that are provided to women in need.

Women Entrepreneurs can help improve the lives of their families and contribute to the growth and development of their own communities.

Helping others see the importance of these contributions is one of the goals of International Women’s Day 2011.
