When Social Media Is Not Enough

There is no doubt that social media is very popular marketing tool for online marketers nowadays. The advent of Myspace, Multiply, Facebook and now Twitter has enabled many entrepreneurs reach a wider audience to introduce their product in matter of a few minutes. A lot of information has been written about how wonderful social media truly is, and what wonders it can do for your business, everything made available in the Internet.

However, it may come as big surprise that using social networking sites and other forms of social media as your business’ sole medium of marketing may hurt your efforts. Untimely as it may seem, but in our modern times, social media marketing still isn’t enough. Think the idea is just impossible? Here are some notable reasons why;

There is still a small number of people that are not using social media, even stranger, the Internet for that matter. In studying a specific market, a small allowance must be considered for those who do not use or are not in the same network as your preferred social network. Some internet users only use the facility for emails and news, perhaps. If you only create a business plan targeted to online media only, you have the tendency of leaving out potential customers.

Unless you have a reputation well established already, most entrepreneurs come across as doubtful when they venture into online selling. The Internet can be a place to get all sorts of information and meet all kinds of people. Having said that, scammers and spammers also lurk the World Wide Web. This fact often scare buyers and customers from buying from an online entrepreneur. Most people would like to see physical advertisement just to ensure they are transacting with a legitimate seller online.

Picture this. If you put an ad about your business on a street corner, make it big enough for people to see, you can be sure that a good number will get to remember your ad, plus they get to see it everyday. Can you assure the same thing if you will be making the same ad on the Internet? Some people don’t schedule when they’re going to be on Twitter or set a specific time each day when they’ll check their Facebook page. For these people who aren’t always on the net, checking their social networks may only happen during their leisure time, which is not often enough. On the other hand, the physical ad posted on that street corner may bring forth better response from customers.

Classic Marketing Strategies wont still be around if not proven effective all these years. With hundreds of millions of people on social media, we can’t even imagine them going anywhere. However, we have to remember that Social media is forever changing, that is why some popular marketing sites and strategies then are no longer as effective today. Meanwhile, we can all say that traditional marketing has been tested to be effective for so long, and it shows no signs of disappearing in the near future. Physical and printed ads still exist today since these still yield favorable results.

In the end, the best strategy in marketing still is to incorporate a mix of online marketing and traditional marketing techniques. The 2 must work hand in hand to provide your business the widest reach in audience, and to give you the best result.
