Healthy Fast Food Restaurant Owner Named As Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year In Berkeley
When we speak of fast food, we can’t help but think of greasy, fatty, and generally unhealthy choice of food. However, one entrepreneur had in mind an innovation , a goal to create a restaurant that serves healthy fast food.
Her name is Amanda West. Recently this restaurateur was named as “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in Berkeley”. The recognition was awarded to her by the Bay Area nonprofit Women’s Initiative for Self-Employment.
West opened her Feel Good Fresh Food restaurant only 2 years ago, with a clear goal to offer fast food that is most healthy. West claims that even as she worked initially on another field, she always wanted to run a business that has a “social and environmental mission”. She went for her choice that was food. “I wanted to explore the type of food that is approachable for everyone — comfort food that is economical,” West said. She is happy to be a part of Berkeley’s significant number of senior women in the area’s food industry. She adds “There are not a lot of women in high positions in the restaurant world generally, it’s a hard industry.”
She shares that helping out and giving back to the community had always and will always be a part of West’s business strategy. “Everything in our business is based on creating a healthy community, for every decision we take we do extensive analysis not only on the impact on our bottom line, but also the impact on the community.”
West currently is a board member of the Downtown Berkeley Association. She also is a part of the executive committee of Buy Local Berkeley as well as part of the advisory board of the Buy Fresh Buy Local initiative.
