Come Right Back Up

Using disappointments as your springboard

In life as in business, one thing is certain, the road to success is always bumpy. In the course of handling a business, a woman entrepreneur will encounter a lot of obstacles and disappointments. She may be disheartened and may give up but a true businesswoman will see all the roadblocks are opportunities for growth, that is only in disguise.

To remain positive and determined to overcome these disappointments can be a daunting task, and sometimes businesswomen just don’t have the heart to remain strong. To push you on the right direction, here are some tried and tested ways that other successful women entrepreneurs have used to help them use the hard times as a springboard in getting right back up.

Be honest and face the facts. To be able to rise above the hard times, you have to be honest with yourself. Face the hard facts, and ask yourself exactly what went wrong and what could have been done to avoid the mishap. By stepping back and taking a long hard look at the root cause of the disappointment, there is a good chance that you will stumble upon the solution, or at least find a way to prevent the same from happening again.

Charge it on experience and learn. So you have determined the cause of the problem, and the damage has been done, the next best thing to do is just accept it as it is and learn. As they say “ there’s no sense crying over spilled milk”, and that is true. Pick yourself up and remember the lessons that this experience taught you. In the end you only get tougher and wiser after every disappointment.

It’s not personal, it’s business. For many women, disappointment becomes personal, thus they become highly emotional and irrational. This may be the case since a woman pours all her emotions in putting up a business. However, in some instances it may become difficult to emotionally and intellectually separate personal feelings from the professional aspects of the situation. When this happens, it may be best to sort thru your emotions to determine why this instance is getting under your skin. Understanding the personal feelings involved in professional disappointments is one positive way to look at the bigger picture and discover the opportunities.

Remember that disappointment is a way of life. There is no way to avoid being disappointed but there is always a way to handle these disappointments that can make the difference between discouragement and greater success. If treated with a clear head, you actually have the power to create bountiful opportunity out of every disappointment you encounter.
