I have the self-control to stop biting my nails.
I have enough self-control to put an end to the habit of biting my nails. The strength needed to stop biting my nails is within me. By being more aware of when and how often I bite my nails, I am one step closer to eliminating the behavior.
Nail biting is not only unprofessional, but also unsanitary. Throughout the day, bacteria and germs from everything I touch gets stored under my nails, which can cause numerous ailments. I resist the urge to endanger my health.
Keeping my fingers away from my mouth prevents me from being exposed to many illness-causing contaminants. I keep my nails out of my mouth to avoid blisters and sores on my mouth. I care about my health enough to reign in my nail biting habit.
Whenever I feel the urge to bring my fingers up to my mouth, I find a distraction. I chew gum to keep my mouth occupied during idle times. I learn to deal with anxiety in a more appropriate way.
When I look at my hands, I see beautiful tools created for helping others. I appreciate the gift of my hands and all the things I can do with them, therefore, I take pride in how I care for them. I have the wherewithal to be mindful of when I am tempted to start biting my nails.
Today, I choose to stop biting my nails by finding an alternate way to express myself. I develop the self-control to help me stop such a destructive and unsanitary habit.

There is an NLP technique called a Swish Pattern that allows you to stop this (and many other) habit in about 10 minutes. It worked wonders for my 6 year old son and many clients.
